The Cross Estate Gardens is part of the Morristown National Historical Park. If you would like to use the Gardens for a photography session (e.g. engagement photos), please refer to the information below. Following your event, please leave the Gardens as you found them.

Please review carefully the information in the link immediately above for the current National Park Service guidance regarding filming, still photography and audio recording.

After you have reviewed the information, please contact the park with any questions you have regarding filming, still photography, and audio recording at Morristown National Historical Park. In most cases, permits and fees are not required for filming, still photography, or audio recordings that involve eight or fewer individuals. To avoid permit and fee requirements, your activity must meet all the following conditions:
  • Group is 8 or fewer persons including photographers/videographers;
  • Occurs in areas open to the public;
  • Uses hand-carried equipment only;
  • Does not require exclusive use of a site;
  • Does not adversely impact park resources, values, or other visitors; and
  • Is not likely to result in additional administrative costs for the National Park Service.
Use of the grounds for non-permit portrait photography sessions is on a first-come, first-served, non-exclusive basis, with the current visitor regulations applying. Some of the visitor regulations include:
  • No littering, including throwing rice, flower petals, or confetti of any kind (e.g., biodegradable paper, plastic, glitter, etc.)
  • Do NOT move any of the outdoor furniture (e.g., benches) or any other moveable features. Specifically at the Cross Estate: Do NOT stand on outdoor furniture especially on patio.
  • No use of props such as tents, arches, balloons etc.
  • Specifically at the Cross Estate: Do NOT block the round about driveway or pathways. Extra parking is available at the NJ Brigade Trailhead.
We request that photographers NOT schedule more than two groups of clients (e.g., family groups) per day. This is to help maintain a more equitable use of the grounds. The grounds open at sunrise and close at different times throughout the year, depending upon when the sun sets. Check our current grounds hours.

The best time to visit to avoid crowds is early in the morning on weekdays. However, please be aware that from spring through fall, 9am to noon on Wednesday mornings is when volunteers work in the Cross Estate Gardens. Please avoid those days and times.

Lost & Found

Items of value which are found left behind at the Cross Estate Gardens will be placed in the Lost & Found at the Jockey Hollow Visitor Center located at 586 Tempe Wick Road, Morristown, NJ 07960.
