The Cross Estate Gardens, a project of the New Jersey Historical Garden Foundation in cooperation with the National Park Service, are located on the Cross Estate, site of the New Jersey Brigade Unit of Morristown National Historical Park, on Old Jockey Hollow Road in Bernardsville, NJ.

The Gardens comprise formal and native gardens, a wisteria-covered pergola, and a mountain laurel allee. The Cross Estate is open from dawn to dusk. Parking is free, and there are no entry fees.

The Gardens are maintained by volunteers who meet every Wednesday morning from March to November.

Every year there is a plant sale, and there are opportunities for garden tours. See our Events page for more information.

Upcoming Events

Full Moon Hike

Saturday, January 30, 2010, 6 - 7:30 p.m.

Join the Great Swamp Watershed Association for a night hike in the watershed. While we don’t guarantee the moonlight, there will be plenty of nature to learn about. We may hear many watershed animal inhabitants including screech or barred owls and other night noises, perhaps even coyotes calling! We’ll play some games to learn more about night senses, and revel in being out after dark without a flashlight!! We ask that you pre-register by visiting www.greatswamp.org or call the GSWA Event Info line at 973-538-3500 x22.

This program is free for GSWA and Cross Estate Gardens members. The fee for non-members is $10 per adult, $5 for each child five and over, and $30 per family.

Garden Tours

Wednesdays from late March through mid-November, between 9 a.m. and noon
